Charles Nelson Bales, 96, of Martinsburg died suddenly on Sunday, February 22, 2009.

Born December 15, 1912 in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Charles Henry and Elsie Bassett Hale Bales.

He was retired from Potomac Edison in 1978 with thirty years of service. He was a member of Christ Reformed Church. He was also a member of Equality Lodge #44 AF & AM for sixty nine years, Scottish Rite Valley of Martinsburg, and Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Forest #150.

He is survived by his son, Martin Nelson Bales and wife, Susan of Martinsburg; daughter, Lissa H. Bales of Gaithersburg, MD. He was Pap Pap to two granddaughters Carrie Ross and husband, Chris of Martinsburg, Cammie Kain and husband, Scott of Shenandoah Junction and one great-grandson, Grayson Christopher Ross of Martinsburg.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Claudia M. "Nettie" Bales, daughter, Vicki R. Bales; and twin sisters, Marie Howard and Margaret Grove.

The family would like to thank Berkeley Senior Services for the care they provided.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at 11:00AM at the Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas E. Hartshorn officiating. Masonic graveside services will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
