George and his twin brother, Landon Peter were born in a covered wagon on the Illinois Prairie on the way back to Kentucky from Kansas City, Missouri. He was well-known in Kentucky for raising coon dogs, black and tan hound dogs used for hunting raccoons for their skins. Cincinnati radio personality, Boss Johnson, used to talk on the radio about hunting with his friend, George Batchelor. The current site of the Greater Cincinnati Area Airport was part of his old stomping grounds.

He worked a farm called Split Rock at the mouth of Woolper Creek and the Ohio River. It was called Split Rock because of a huge rock split by nature which became a tourist attraction. The rock is a couple of miles east of Petersburg, just off shore in the Ohio River, but it has been under water since the river was dammed. The property is now part of the Split Rock Conservation Park.

George was married twice and raised 9 children to adulthood.
