Simmons, 86, died Monday, February 19, 2001. Born in Laurens County, she was the daughter of the late James McLeod Sr. and Mamie McLeod. She was the widow of William Ovin Simmons. She was a member of Hazlehurst First Baptist Church and was involved in the Sunday School, church training, Women's Missionary Union, and Young at Hearts.
Survivors included her children: June (Simmons) Faulk of Acworth and Otholene (Simmons) Hamilton of Lake City, Florida; sisters and brother: Allean (McLeod) Mahady of Kennesaw, Mildred (McLeod) Stout of Jacksonville, Florida, and the Rev. J.O. McLeod Jr. of St. Augustine, Florida; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
