RITES ARE HELD FOR MRS. HILMA LINDSTROM

Funeral services for Mrs. Sophie Lindstrom, nonagenarian, who passed away at her home north-east of Varna, IL, January 20, 1950, were held from the First Lutheran Church at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, the Rev. Roy Johnson of Granville, IL officiating.

A short service at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Valine preceded the church service. Two songs, "All the Way my Savior Leads Me", and "Children of the Heavenly Father," were sung by Irene Carlson and Eldon Anderson. A gorgeous array of beautiful flowers spoke their silent message of comfort. The pallbearers were: Murray and Leonard Peterson, Guy and Dean Lindstrom, Lawrence Munson and Albert Prestin, Jr. Interment was made in Salem Cemetery (First Lutheran Cemetery # 1).

Hilma Olson was born in Smoland, Sweden, December 18, 1859, and was at the time of her death 90 years, one month and two days. They settled in the vicinity of Henry, IL, later moving near Varna where she spent the remainder of her life.

She was one of the first classes to be confirmed in the First Lutheran Church of Varna and the last class to pass on.

She was married to Peter Lindstrom who passed away 49 years ago, four children also preceded her in death. Left to mourn her passing are three children, Charles and Hulda Valine of Varna, and Arthur of Milwaukee, WI, three grandchildren, Peggy Lindstrom, Milwaukee, WI, Hattie, Henry, and Leola Shanklin, and six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, besides friends and neighbors.

Mrs. Lindstrom had kept house for her son Charles on their farm, doing so until her last illness of only a week and a half. She was a remarkable woman, having retained her mental and physical abilities until the very last. She was extremely devoted to her home and family, where she will be greatly missed.

Relatives attending from a distance were Mr/Mrs. Arthur Lindstrom, Milwaukee, WI, Mrs. Ralph Peterson and Aaron Lindstrom, Rockford, IL, Mr/Mrs. Arthur Anderson and son Glenn, Batavia, IL, Mr/Mrs. Otto Smith, Minonk, IL, Mr/Mrs. Grant Crone, Rutland, IL, Mr/Mrs. George Esterdahl, Wenona, IL, Mrs. Carl Helander, Streator, IL, and Frank Johnson, Magnolia, IL.
