Co. C Russell's 4th Alabama Cavalry CSA. Mr. Street was the first Huntsville Police Officer to be killed in the line of duty. He was struck in the head with an axe while investigating an assault. Two men were accused of killing Officer Street. One was apprehended, still in possession of the officer's pistol. He was removed from the jail by angry citizens and lynched on the courthouse square. Officer Street was killed when he was struck in the head with an axe as he investigated a disturbance at a home. When he arrived at the home he found it to be occupied by a single man. As he began to leave another man, who had been hidden in a closet, came up from behind and struck him on the head with the axe.
