Roland W. Shemwell was the son of Harrison Higgs "Harris" Shemwell and his second wife, Elizabeth. Some have her maiden name as Black and others have it as Cheek. The marriage certificate for Roland states that his mother's maiden name is Taylor. I have Elizabeth's name as Elizabeth Black.
Roland was married to Hettie Boyd "Etta" Layman on October 3, 1900 in Grayson County, Kentucky.
It was in Grayson that Roland and Etta had their eldest son, Granbury Dabney Shemwell, he was born on July 27, 1901 in Caneyville.
Three years later the couple welcomed their next child into their lives, McMarion Shemwell, whom was born on January 28, 1904 in either Illinois or Kentucky. McMarion passed away as still in an infant on October 14, 1904 in Illinois. His family was in route to Barry County, Missouri.
Roland and Etta received another son, Hubert Roland Shemwell whom was born on August 5, 1907 in Elwood, Greene, Missouri.
Not long after Hubert's birth, came their one and only daughter, Anna Katherine Shemwell. She was born on January 3, 1909 in Pineville, McDonald, Missouri.
By 1910 the family had made to Exeter, Barry, Missouri.
