DECATUR - Judd E.Gustin, 91, of Decatur, died peacefully in his sleep on Friday, July 30, 2010, in Imboden Creek Living Center. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, August 4th, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, 2827 North Oakland Ave., Decatur, Illinois. A private family service and interment will be held Thursday, August 5th, at Mt. Gilead Cemetery Decatur, IL. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home Decatur, IL. are assisting the family with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Association . Judd Gustin was born on March 15, 1919, in Long Creek, Illinois. He was the son of Eldon and Golden Nowlin Gustin. He is survived by three sons, Gregory (wife Deborah Canute) of Mokena, Illinois; Bradley of Allenhurst, New Jersey; Timothy (wife Jill Tallman) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one daughter, Gwendolyn Gustin Meece of Phoenix, Arizona, stepsons James Nicholson of Del Ray Beach, Florida; Corydon Nicholson (wife Lesley Wurth) of Decatur; grandsons Andrew, Christopher, Peter and Chase Gustin; step-granddaughter Kristin Nicholson (Nathan Beaver), step-great-grandchildren Ian and Alec Nicholson, and sister-in-law Joanne Gustin of Decatur. His parents, wives Leah Alice Rivard Gustin and Lucille Nicholson Gustin, and brother Dale Gustin preceded him in death. Judd graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 1937 and Brown Business College. He then joined the family real estate business started by his grandfather, Thomas Gustin. In 1942, Judd married Leah Alice Rivard and enlisted in the Army Air Corp. After graduating from Parks Air College in Lubbock, Texas, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant. He continued to serve in the Air Service Command in Middletown, Pennsylvania, as Head of Flight Testing before being stationed in Manila, Philippines. Upon returning from World War II, he worked for the State of Illinois Department of Transportation in land acquisition for over 30 years, as well as for the City of as for the City of Decatur, being involved in the first urban renewal project of that time. In 1993, Judd married Lucille Nicholson of Decatur. Judd was a man of integrity, fairness, and grace, being known by many to be a true gentleman. One of his major accomplishments was his ability to make friends and empathize with people from all walks of life. Judd's wit and sense of humor will be remembered and greatly missed by family members and friends, especially his lifelong friend, Steve Graliker. The family wishes to express their profound gratitude to the caring and compassionate staff at Imboden Creek Living Center.
