Obituary of John Lafayette Mann:
JOHN L. MANN BURIED CHRISTMAS EVE
"Another old citizen has passed on, Christmas Eve, while the world was preparing to observe and celebrate the birth of the world's Redeemer, friends and loved ones stood by the grave of John L. Mann. Mann was born in Tennessee on February 15, 1857 and was nearing the 69th mile-post on life's journey when the end came. Mann moved to Texas in 1884 [1894]. Most of the time he lived in or near Honey Grove but spent a few years in Hunt County. His first wife was Miss M.A. Tisdal and to this union eight children were born, seven of whom are living. His second wife, who survives, was Miss Isabl S. Dunn; to this union were born six children, all of whom survive. The old pioneer is also survived by 57 grandchildren.
John L. Mann was a man who stood for righteousness, contributed what he could to the betterment of the world. He was intelligent, courageous and a believer in justice always and everywhere. The funeral and burial were at Oak Ridge Cemetery on Christmas Eve and many loved ones and friends gathered with the relatives to pay their respects to the memory of a good man who has passed on."
