26th Division, 101st Regiment, Headquarters
Company. Enlisted October 5, 1917. Killed in
action July 13, 1918 at LaCroisette, near
Chateau Thierry. Buried in American Concen-
tration Cemetery at Belleau Wood. Leon E.
Abbott was the first Swampscott soldier killed
in action. Post 57 of the American Legion has
been named in honor of his memory.
