He was shot by Jesse Richabaugh. The latter worked for Meyers and was engagegd to his daughter. The two had an argument in Richabaugh's tent then went up the hill to get Richabaugh's check. One of them fired and then both fired five shots. Richabaugh pled self defence and was released.
This was the first grave in the future cemetery (Pioneer) of Douglas.
