George was the son of Millard Combs and Dora Jane "Dolly" Ball Combs. Millard was killed by gunshot in December 1896 at age 17, a few months after(?) George was born. George was partially raised by his grandparents, M.O. and Amanda Chance Combs. Dolly later remarried and had a daughter named Ida Gilley Simon (#110420029).
