Major Hugh St Aubyn Wake, MVO, 2nd Batalion, 8th Gurkha Rifles. He was the 4th son of Admiral Charles Wake, Royal Navy, and Emma Wake. Husband of Kathleen Mary Wake (nee Grigg). Married Oct-Dec 1899 in Bedford, Bedfordshire. He was baptised on 15 May 1870 in St Peter in Thanet, Broadstairs, Kent. (App. b. India) Gentleman Cadet at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Commissioned into the Northumberland Fusiliers as a 2nd Lieutenant on 2 May 1891, serving in the 2nd Battalion in Peshawur, Bengal, India. Promoted to Lieutenant on 8 Feb 1893. Transferred to the Indian Army on 31 May 1895. Promoted to Captain on 10 Jul 1901 and to Major on 2 May 1909. He served in the North West Frontier of India in 1897-98 including the Tirah Expedition (medal and clasp). Soon after the start of WW1, he deployed with his battalion to France. He was killed in action at Festubert, France on 30 Oct 1914.
