Emily Florine Neves Alves of Hanford after fighting a brave and hard fought battle with cancer, lost that battle on Sunday, April 18, 2010.

Emily was born in Lanare, California to John and Maria Neves. Emily attended Hanford schools and worked in retail sales. She married the love of her life, Edward Alves in 1951, and were married for forty-nine years. They enjoyed traveling, especially to U.S. Naval ship reunions throughout the U.S. and traveling in their motor home and camping. Emily was a member of the Hanford Seniors, Hanford Valley Seniors, SPRSI No. 113 of Fort Bragg, where they lived for a few years when Ed retired from the Navy. The YLI No. 240, Seaside, where they lived for 21 years, after Ed rejoined the Navy as a recruiter and the 15MM of Selma. She and Ed moved back to Hanford in 1992 after Ed's second retirement. She attended St. Brigid Catholic Church in Hanford and the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Emily will always be remembered as a quick wit and loving attitude to all she met, which made her so special.

She leaves behind her family and a large extended "family" of friends, who she loved dearly, especially her friends at the Remington Retirement Living Center in Hanford.

She was preceded in death by her husband Edward Alves, parents, sisters, Mary Mello, Lucy Barber, Adeline Neves and Mabel Neves, brothers, Frank, John, Tony and Bill Neves.

Emily is survived by sister-in-laws, Velma Neves, Mabel Neves and Elsie Neves and many nieces and nephews and several grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. She was deeply loved and cherished by her family and friends.

Visitation will be from 5-6 p.m., Sunday, April 25 with the Recitation of the Rosary at 6 p.m. at Whitehurst-McNamara Funeral Services Chapel in Hanford. Mass will be at 10 a.m., Monday, April 26 at St. Brigid Catholic Church. Burial to follow at the Calvary Cemetery.
