Donald served as a Staff Sergeant & Radar Operator / Gunner on B-29 "Lady Hamilton II" #42-24542, 794th Bomber Squadron, 468th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Baltimore, Maryland prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on June 30, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in laundering and also as Single, without dependents.

B-29 #42-24542 was part of mission #187 which was a mission to attack Osaka, Japan. This mission included "458" B-29's in the attack on Osaka itself and "16" B-29's attacking other targets. B-29 #42-24542 was one of " 10 " B-29's lost on this mission.

They took off, with a crew of 11, from West Field, Tinian Island on a bombing mission over Osaka, Japan. They were last seen entering a cloud front 200 miles south of the Japanese main land and were not seen again. It is believed that the entire crew of " 11 " were lost at sea.

Donald was declared "Missing In Action" in this loss during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.

He also has a "cenotaph" in the Hebrew Friendship Cemetery, Baltimore, Maryland that displays the date of when he was "officially" declared dead by the military. (June 2, 1946).
