Lonnie was 26 when he died. He was a bombadier in the 36th Bomber Squadron, 26th Bomber Group, (Heavy), Army Air force. His aircraft was a B-24, serial number 41-3970. He was a Sergeant, serial number 18018793. The plane's destination was Kiska, Alaska. The date was April 15, 1943, and there were 11 men on board. All were killed in action. The military record, under the heading "Remarks" gives this information: "Plane shot down over Kiska Harbor, North American Area. B-24 was shot down by enemy anti-aircraft fire over Kiska, Alaska. Plane fell in flames into water about 300 yards east of North Head. No one got out. Straffed by Jap guns in the water." Lonnie was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart. His parents were Florence Yandell (1898-1984) and her husband, Bert E Sewell (1898-1984)
