Marjorie was linked as his spouse prior to my taking over management so I will leave this as it was since she certainly would have been his wife had he lived. Their love was true. His father's Fluitt side, his mother's Lucky side and his paternal grandmother's Pewitt side had deep roots in Monticello, Arkansas. He and Marjorie may have met for the first time when his family returned to Monticello for his mother's funeral or they may have re-kindled a friendship. More research is required.

Albert O., Jr., Army Signal Corps; Lieut. Eugene, Army Air Forces; Clifford, naval air cadet; Pfc. Lewis H., Marines; Robert K., Army air cadet, and Ralph, at home, and a daughter, Jane."

7 Apr 1945 BATTLE OF THE EAST CHINA SEA: "The Bataan's contribution: 4 torpedo hits on the YAMATO; one bomb hit on a light cruiser; bomb hits on 2 destroyers. As a result of these and hits by other groups, the YAMATO and the cruiser sank..."

DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS - Earned for service with Torpedo Squadron 47 attached to U.S.S. Bataan in the vicinity of Kyushu and the Mamsei Shoto from March 18 to May 13, 1945.

24 May 1945 - "Air Group 47 makes its last flight over Kyushu, with a sweep over Kushira Airfield."

29 to 31 May 1945 - "The Okinawa Campaign is over for the BATAAN, all 80 days of it. We're underway for Leyte Gulf, in the Philippines."

29 Aug 1945 Statesman Journal, Salem Oregon; front page, column 2: "Clifford L. Fluitt Missing in Action -- WASHINGTON, Aug. 28 - Lt. (jg) Clifford LaVerne Fluitt, USNR, son of Albert Otto Fluitt, sr., of 710 S. 11th st., Corvallis, was listed as missing today by the navy department."
