Embarking from Port Chalmers 16th October 1914 with Otago Mounted Rifles, Main Body to Suez, Egypt. Thomas was promoted to Farrier Corporal on 29th March 1916 at Ismalia. Embarking from Alexandria for France on 6th April 1916.
Thomas died of wounds at 35th Casualty Clearing Station Heilly, France.
