"The Battalion suffered its first fatal casualty in Malaya, when Corporal Bill Eames, fell out of a "dug-out" canoe and drowned. Corporal Eames, not a swimmer, accompanied by two others from the Mortar Platoon, all wearing full equipment, were crossing the river to do a patrol. Both companions went into the water in an effort to save him, but were not successful."

Tell them of us, and say,
For your tomorrow,
We gave our today."
