Ferinand served as a Chief Engineer, S.S. William King, Merchant Marines during World War II.

He resided in Bucksport, Hancock County, Maine prior to the war.

The unescorted S.S. William King, with a crew of 65, was hit by two torpedos fired by German submarine U-198 in the Indian Ocean on June 6, 1943 and sank during the war. " 6 " of the merchant crew died as a result of this attack and the other " 59" survived.

Ferinand "Died Of Wounds" while in one of the lifeboats.

He was posthumously awarded the Mariner's Medal and the Combat Bar with a Star!
