Martin Carl "Marty" Wachter, age 89, passed away 3:10 p.m. Monday, June 21, 2010 in Westmoreland Place following a several month illness.
Born and raised in Chillicothe, where he was a life-long resident, he was the son of the late George and Josephine Wagner Wachter and was preceded in death by sisters, Justina and Anne and brothers, Paul, William and Clarence (Dodie).

He is survived by his wife, Mary, two daughters and two sons.

Martin graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1938 and was a veteran of the Second World War, having served in Italy and Northern Africa. He was a life-long member of St. Peters Catholic Church where he served for many years as an usher. Martin attended Ohio University and graduated from the Wisconsin School of Banking. He retired as vice-president and cashier for the former First National Bank / BancOhio in 1983. He was involved in many community activities including the Evening Lion's Club, United Way, Chamber of Commerce, International Management Council, American Red Cross and the Chillicothe Metropolitan Housing Authority. Martin was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and was an avid golfer.

He will be greatly missed by granddaughters, Nicole Wachter and Katie Cameron, grandsons, C.M. (Jane) and Ryan (Catherine) Cameron, Adam (Lisa) Wachter and Alex, Nathan and Cole Hengstebeck and a great grandson, Lucas Cameron.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2010 in St. Peter Church with Fr. William Hahn and Fr. Charles Griffin Celebrants. Burial will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the WARE FUNERAL HOME where a Rosary Service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society c/o St. Peter Church 126 Church Street Chillicothe, Ohio 45601.
