Private First Class John Dennis Aderhold served 16th Infantry Regiment (M-Comp), 1st Infantry Division "Big Red One". He was Killed in Action near Gut Merbich, Germany , on Nov. 26, 1944 and he was honored with a Purple Heart.

Memorial services for PFC Dennis Aderhold, son of Rev. and Mrs. John M. Aderhold, will be held Sunday, April 8, 1945, at 2:30 PM from Prays Mill Baptist Church with Rev. Homer L. Folsom and Rev. J. J. Aderhold, uncle of the deceased, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mrs. R. D. Rice.

PFC Aderhold was killed in Germany on November 26, 1944. Upon graduation from Douglas County High School in 1942, he was inducted into the Army that same year and received his basic training at Camp Wheeler in Georgia. He was sent overseas where he served in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, England, France, and Belgium meeting his death in Germany. He was with the infantry and had been in war zones over a year and a half.

The Purple Heart was awarded posthumously and sent to his parents on January 11, 1945. Also the Military Certificate for Bravery was awarded by President Roosevelt.

Among the many messages of condolence received by the family were letters from the Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson, Major General J. A. Ulio of the Adjutant General's office, First Lt. John E. McCarthy of Company "M" 16th Infantry, and Lt. Col. A.G.D. Charles A. Rewson, Army Service Forces of Fourth Service Command Headquarters.

J. Cowan Whitley Funeral Home will be in charge of flowers and arrangements.
