T/Sgt Keathley was a gunner in the Right Waist Gunner position on the B-24, Lillie Bell, on which he was a crew member. The Lillie Bell (42-52191), a B-24 Bomber, was lost in North Sea on return flight from a mission into Germany. The plane was badly damaged, lost fuel, and could not make it back to England. From a crew of ten, there was one survivor, bombardier Lt Gerald Joseph "Joe" Cyr of Old Town, ME, who gave a personal account of the ditching.
The crew served with the 735th Squadron of the 453rd Bomb Group, Heavy. The home base was Old Buckenham Field, England
At the time MACR was compiled, T/Sgt Keathley was listed as MIA. He is listed as married at the time; his wife was living in Lesterville, MO.
