Donald Edward Wright was the son of Roland Nelson Wright and Clara Jorgena K Christenson Wright. According to the registration of his birth- Donald was born in Berlin MA; his parents place of residence is Hudson MA and the registration was done for Hudson MA. Donald Wright's paternal grandparents were Edward E Wright and Hattie L Jacobs Wright. His maternal grandparents were Frederick Christenson and "Minnie" Wilhelm P Carlson. Donald was one of six children. His siblings were Rowena b. 1920; Lester A Turner b.1929; Richard b. 1931; Clara P b. 1937; and Judith b. 1938.

S/Sgt Donald E Wright (Service #31257480) enlisted on 18 Dec 1942 at Fort Devens, MA. According to his enlistment papers he had completed 4 years of high school.

S/Sgt Wright served with the 453rd Bomb Group, 735th Bomb Squadron. He was the tail gunner on the Lillie Bell. The Lillie Bell (42-52191), a B-24 Bomber, was lost in North Sea on return flight from a mission into Germany. Plane was badly damaged, lost fuel, and could not make it back to England. From a crew of ten, there was one survivor, bombardier Lt Gerald Joseph "Joe" Cyr of Old Town, ME, who gave a personal account of the ditching. The home base of the 453rd Bomb Group was Old Buckenham Field, England
