Staff Sergeant Joseph Pierce, Ohio, Service Number: 35420758, flew as a waist gunner on B-17s with the 413rd Bomb Squadron, 96th Bomb Group. While returning to England from a mission to Anklam, Germany, 9 Oct 1943, Pierce's aircraft, B-17 #42-30781, called 'Demo Darling', was attacked and crippled by an enemy fighter. The bomber crashed in the North Sea, off the coast of Denmark, killing all on board.
