Ralph Huntwork entered the service in Huron in November of 1942. He served in infantry and was a Private in the Army. He was sent over seas September 1, 1944.
Private Ralph Clayton Huntwork perished May 7, 1945 at a hospital in Germany at 11:30 a.m. He had gotten suddenly ill the night before. His place of burial is plot D Row 6 Grave 13, Netherlands American Cemetery Margraten, Netherlands. He is also remembered in a Veterans Memorial in front of the Huron Public Library. His name is inscribed on a granite obelisk. On an adjacent sidewalk, it reads ". . . for those who served and those who died."
At the time of the soldier's death the survivors included his widow, Jeanne Huntwork, his son, David, 3; three children from his previous marriage, Donna, 8, and Duane, 7, who lived with their aunt, Mrs. Bernice Kukuk, and James, who was adopted by Ralph's brother, Dale; his step-daughter and step-son, Jackie and Sherald Hanson; his two brothers, Dale and Fred, and two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Colwill and Mrs. William (Mabel) Musolf.
