He was born in Chicago Dec. 6, 1890, the son of Isaac N. Ash. In May, 1917, he gave up his farm near McNabb, Ill., and sailed for France, where he joined the Lafayette escadrille, and went through the aviation school at Avord. Corporal Alan Newton Ash, aviator in the Lafayette escadrille, was killed in action on May 31 near Oulchyle chateau, while flying a Brequet plane against superior numbers. His machine came down in flames.

He was born in Chicago Dec. 6, 1890, the son of the late Isaac N. Ash, and grandson of Henry W. Tenney, formerly of the Chicago bar. In May, 1917, he gave up his farm near McNabb, Ill., and sailed for France, where he joined the Lafayette escadrille, and went through the aviation school at Avord. The only Chicago relatives of the aviator are Mr. Tenney and L. Homer Ash, a member of the board of trade.
