He was born in Chicago Dec. 6, 1890, the son of Isaac N. Ash. In May, 1917, he gave up his farm near McNabb, Ill., and sailed for France, where he joined the Lafayette escadrille, and went through the aviation school at Avord. Corporal Alan Newton Ash, aviator in the Lafayette escadrille, was killed in action on May 31 near Oulchyle chateau, while flying a Brequet plane against superior numbers. His machine came down in flames.∼
