CONFIDENTIAL – Sheet No. 1 – War Diary - 64th Fight Squadron, 57th Group – Month of September 1944 - Prepared by Earl D Lovick, Capt, AC - EVENTS – Day 7 – Lt. Noesges, a newcomer to the Squadron, was killed this afternoon when his ship stalled and crashed as he was turning to approach the south end of the runway. The ship nosed down from about five hundred feet and crashed in a valley south of the field.

Entry from diary of Lt. Ralph S. "Luke" Lucardi, 7 Sep 1944: "Well, we lost another man today. I saw him go in. He spun in on the approach. I watched him all around the traffic pattern. About a week ago his best buddy spun in on the approach. It was this boy's birthday today too. Damn it! When the kid went in today, Rawson, Samf, Pete Mitchell and I were the first ones to get near the scene. We had to hit the deck because the bullets were going off. One bullet landed at my feet! We couldn't do anything for the kid. G-damn it. I wish we could have helped him! He burned to a crisp. - 8 Sep - Went to the kids funeral today. I was an honorary pall bearer. It was a very simple but nice ceremony."
