Son of Mr. & Mrs. Lee A. Stagman who resided in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Wilfred served as a Second Lieutenant & Navigator on B-24H "Born To Lose" #41-29258, 719th Bomber Squadron, 449th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Webster County, Iowa prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on May 10, 1941, prior to the war, at Fort Des Moines, Iowa. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Office Clerk and also as Single, without dependents.

B-24H #41-29258 took off from Grottaglie, Italy on a bombing mission over Bucharest, Romania. They were attacked by German Fighters and were shot down and crash near the Danube River south of Bucharest during the war. Parachutes were seen to be leaving the B-24 by other planes in the area.

Wilfred was "Killed In Action" in this crash.

He was awarded a the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
