"Mrs. Amanda Smith, 65 died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Wabasha, after being found unconscious in her room at the home of her brother, Herman Holst, here Wednesday morning. She had been in poor health for several years. Her residence had been with her brother for a year. Mrs. Smith was born June 15, 1888, in Plainview Township where her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Holst Sr., farmed. She grew to womanhood here and worked in Rochester for several years. She was married to George Smith in March 1927. Survivors are four brothers, Herman, Carl Jr., and Robert Sr., Plainview, and Reuben, Winona; a sister, Mrs. Otto Zirbel, Plainview, and 24 nieces and nephews. Her parents and three sisters have died. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Rev. Theodore Schoewe officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews Robert Holst, Jr., and Bernard Holst, Plainview; Earl Holst, Winona; Norman Holst, St. Paul, and Richard Loppnow and Charles Zirbel, Plainview. Friends may call at the Foley & Johnson Funeral Chapel Home from this afternoon until time of service."
