The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Field Artillery) Allan W. Douglass, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 113th Field Artillery, 30th Division, A.E.F., near Limey, France, 12 September 1918. During the engagement, after having been struck by a shell splinter, Lieutenant Douglas continued his work of removing dead and wounded horses, and assisted in moving the carriages to a place of safety. He was again struck and killed. By his courage and devotion to duty he inspired the men of his section to continue their work successfully.
