Osie was born August 7, 1916 in a sod house located about 15 miles west of the present town of Hawk Springs, WY, in an area referred to as Goshen Hole.

Her parents were Charles and Della Boardman Anderson. The family lived in Goshen County, WY about a decade before moving to the Brule area in the mid 1920's.

Osie attended Middle Vale Grade School and Brule High School. After graduation in 1934 she attended beautician training in Ogallala and obtained her beauty license after taking the train to Lincoln, NE for certification.

She opened Osie's Beauty Shop in Brule shortly thereafter. Later on she relocated her business into the family farm home. After over fifty years she let her license expire and closed Osie's Beauty Shop.

On April 22, 1939 Osie married Myron 'Bud' Van Velson in Torrington. Bud and Osie were farmers in the Brule area. During her early married years Osie drove tractors, helped in the fields, milked cows and did the necessary farm chores. She maintained an attractive yard using her passion for raising flowers and shrubs. Besides her family she treasured interactions with her many friends in the Brule area.

Mrs. Van Velson was an enthusiastic supporter of school and sporting activities when she was raising her children. Osie was a charter member of the Happy Hour Garden Club, a member of the Brule United Church of Christ, Congregational and the Women's Fellowship, and was involved in many Brule community projects. For many years she was a Pink Lady volunteer at the Ogallala Community Hospital.

Preceding her in death was her husband, brother Andy Anderson and sister Gladys Roberts.

Survivors include four sons: Rod Van Velson and his wife Doris of Windsor, CO; Tom Van Velson of Bellvue, CO; Rich Van Velson and his wife Joanne and John Van Velson and his wife B.J. , all of Brule. A sister: Minnie and husband Del Splitter of Big Springs.
