His siblings were Floretta Maggie Alexander Foster, PFC John William Alexander, and Thomas H Alexander. He is honored by his family in their hometown cemetery plot in Kannapolis City Cemetery, SSgt Charles H Alexander next to his parents.
He enlisted in the service 13 August 1942 at Camp Croft, South Carolina. At the time he was single, had completed four years of high school, and was a textile worker in his civil life.

On a bombing mission 25 February 1944, B-17G #42-31664 departed from the air base at Foggia, Italy to a target at Regensburg, Germany. Weather was clear that day with unlimited visibility. The ship encountered enemy aircraft and was seen to break apart in the air. The plane crashed near Haarbach, south of Landshut, Germany. Several were able to bail out, however, they were captured and taken prisoner. Six men were killed from this ship. The crew members were~
