Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until November 7, 1945.

Ernest served as a Corporal on C-47 (#41-19485), 12th Squadron, 60th Troop Carrier Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Somerset County, Maine prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on January 17, 1942 in Portland, Maine. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the manufacture of paper and pulp and also as Single, without dependents.

Ernest was declared "Missing In Action" when his C-47, while on a supply mission, was believed to be shot down over Serbia during the war. He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
