John Bemhard Plett was born
on April 6, 1929 in Nlckolaifeld
(in the former Ukraine) in the
Soviet Union. In 1943, John
and his family moved to
Germany, where he was mobilized into the German Army
Following the war he remained
in Germany and completed a
degree in Agricultural Practices and Farm management
On November 30, 1949, with help from MCC, he immigrated
to Canada. He armed in Winnipeg, and worked a
variety of farm and lumber jobs and in early April of 1951
he worked on the Davld Wall farm in the Edenthal area.

On July 1, 1952 John married Marlene Wall from Edenthal
From that union seven children were bom. This family
includes ~ Rose, son Bernie (& wife Rhonda) and
their children Dana and Ben, son David (&wife Shamn) and
their children Sara and Tom, son Armin (& wife Angela), their children Robert and Megan, daughter Gredi (& husband
Ward), and their children Christopher, Paul, Jesse Jon and
his son Wyatt, daughter Imy (& husband Larry), and their
children Shaun (wife Trish and their daughter Elora)
.Jackson (wife Uliana and their son Jacob), Matthew and
Erika. daughter Marlene (& husband Larry), their children
Ashley, Justin (& fiance Karrisa) and Kayta.
John participated in community, sitting on the Gretna
and District Union Board of Directors for nearly 22 years, a Rhineland School Division Trustee Board for one year. From 1957 until 1994 he drove the school bus, a job he enjoyed a great deal. John was baptized upon confession of his faith on June of 1952 at the Gretna Bergthaler Mennonite Church. His faith was a great source of strength to him in his later years, finding comfort in Mathew 6:33 and Psalm 23.
On April 10, 2010, John was called to the home of his
heavenly Father. He was surrounded by those held dear to
him. He was predeceased by his parents, Hans and Sara
Plett, two sisters, Gretel and Mafia, and three brothers
Jacob, Bemhard and Peter and is survived by his sister Lina
Koop and the families in Germany.
The family takes great comfort in knowing that Jesus has
welcomed his child John, community member, friend to
many and our Dad, to his heavenly home.
The funeral service for John Bemhard Plett was held
Friday, April 16, 2010 at the Gretna Bergthaler Mennonite
Church with burial in the Gretna Cemetery.
