On his 1940 draft registration Charles lists his employer as the Pennsylvania Railroad in Cincinnati. He was 5'9" and weighed 135 lbs blue eyes and brown hair. His next of kin was his mother, Edith Adams, at 125 W 5th street in Covington.
In the 1940 census 21-year-old Charles and wife Roberta are living with Charles' mother at 125 W 5th street in Covington. His mother is a practical nurse. Charles is a food runner for a hotel.
Charles enlisted 19 Nov 1942 in Cincinnati. He'd had two years of high school and was divorced, with dependents. He was assigned to the 387th Field Artillery attached to the 104th Infantry Division. The 387th was a 155mm Howitzer battalion.
Newspapers on 24 Jan 1945 listed Charles as wounded in action 28 Nov 1944. On 28 Nov 1944 the command post of the 104th Infantry Division was at Eschweiler in the Rhineland.
The NARA WWII Casualty listings by state and county for Kentucky show Adams, Charles H, Pvt from Kenton County as DNB (Died Non-Battle) so he died in the line of duty from some illness or accident on 27 Mar 1945. Per Find-a-grave he died at Korbach, Landkreis, Waldeck-Frankenberg, Hessen, Germany. Korbach is 92 miles due north of Frankfurt, 99 miles east northeast of Cologne and 97 miles south southeast of Hanover.
