John (possibly Johann) Werthmann was my great-grandfather. According to the 1900 United States Federal Census (which spelled his name Workman), he was born in Apr 1866 in Germany. The Pennsylvania 1910 Census Miracode Index states he was 43 years old when it was enumerated. His mother's name was Theodora (maiden name unknown). He married Annie Drumm (married named spelled as Worthman in 1920 PA Census). They had nine children. Two of them spelled their names with one "n" (Werthman). They were William J. and Helen, both buried in St. Cecilia's Cemetery in Rochester, PA. The other seven all spelled their names with two "n's" (Werthmann). Pictured from left to right are John (buried in Sylvania Hills Mausoleum, Rochester, PA), Mary (my grandmother, buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Freedom, PA), Elizabeth, and Rose. Charles, Annie, and Johanna were not in the photo. These three are buried in St. Cecilia's Cemetery in Rochester, PA.

John Werthmann became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1892 in Pennsylvania. He was from Berlin, Germany.
