Robert Allingham was part of A-Squadron of the Plugs and was wounded in action near Valguarnera. He was initially buried in a small field cemetery near Grottacalda where more Canadian casualties have been buried.
Robert lived in Westmount (QC) with his parents and two brothers. One of his older brothers served overseas with the Royal Canadian Engineers as a Sapper. His only sister was also in the Canadian Army. Robert enlisted on the 11th of September 1939 in Montréal and was placed with the Royal Canadian Regiment. He was one of the RCR men who went overseas to France on June 13, 1940. When he returned to England two days later he asked to be transferred to the Princess Louise Dragoon Guards.
