Son of the Rev. Canon W. S. Grigson and Mary Beatrice Grigson of Pelynt Vicarage, Looe, Cornwall, England.

Son of the Reverend Canon William Shuckforth Grigson, M.A., and Mary Beatrice (née Boldero) Grigson [they married in 1890 in Stourbridge].
Four of his brothers also served and fell during the two World Wars; they were:-
Captain Kenneth Walton Grigson MC,
Second Lieutenant Lionel Henry Shuckforth Grigson,
Captain Aubrey Herbert Grigson and
Air Commodore John William Boldero GRIGSON DSO, DFC and 2 Bars.

There is a memorial to the Grigson brothers in the St. Nun church in Pelynt, Cornwall.
