OBITUARY OF JACOB B. BYERS

Jacob B. BYERS died Monday December 04, at his home in Steamboat Springs. Immediate cause of death was cardiac dilation. He had previously suffered from paralysis and was moved about in a wheel chair. Funeral services were arranged for this afternoon at 2:30 at the Congregational church.

Mr. BYERS was born in Paw Paw, Michigan, February 03, 1860, and was 70 years of age. He had been a timber worker. He is survived by his wife and a son, Burkie BYERS, of Steamboat Springs. There are other children.

J. B. BYERS WAS A DEVOUT CHRISTIAN

J. B. BYERS, who died December 04 at the age of 74, was a devout Christian. His friends in Steamboat Springs will remember him as the fatherly man who was often seen on the streets in his wheel chair. He always had a smile of encouragement for those who stopped to talk to him and he never failed to say something about the wonderful gifts of God. He was a member of the Assembly of God church.

In his younger years Mr. BYERS traveled extensively. His family lived in Michigan. Before coming to Colorado in 1909 he had lived in Washington. In 1916 he came to Routt county and took up a homestead near Columbine.

He and Miss Florence WALKLEY were married in 1888. Their two children are Arthur BYERS of Hartford, Washington, and Mrs. Goldie SJARGREN of Ensign, Michigan. His second marriage was to Miss Essie WRIGHT of Hiawatha, Michigan. She survives him. To them were born seven sons and five daughters. The sons are Mark and Ramon of Hereford, Colorado; Burkie of Steamboat Springs; Elton of Wapato, Washington; Jesse of Porangeles, Washington; Ivan of Steamboat Springs, and David, who died in 1935. The daughters are Mrs. Opel GRAY of Leadville; Mrs. Jessie FEORI of Denver; Mrs. Nina POISEL of Horrah, Washington, and Velma and Margaret, who died in infancy.

Mr. BYERS had 39 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. There are four living brothers.

Participating in the funeral services held at the Congregational church on December 07 were Rev. David, Rev. Dodd and Rev. Mrs. Harper. Miss Rachel Wood played the accompaniment for the hymns sung by Velle Elgin, Maxine Ohman and Beatrice Ohman.

Interment was in the Steamboat Springs cemetery. A. W. Heyer was funeral director.
