CASSWELL Percy Edward, Private S4 070833. HQ, 3rd Echelon, Army Service Corps. Died Balkans 6th October 1915, aged 25 years. Son of Edward and Sarah Casswell of 14 Albert Street, Grantham, Lincs. Census 1901 - Percy Edward age 10 years, Father Edward 37 a farmer, living Castle Bytham Road.
Census 1911 - Percy Edward 20 a clerk, Father Edward 47, painter agricultural, living 14, Albert Street, Grantham.
His Mother died 28, May 1949 age 81 in Grantham.

We regret to announce the death, whilst on active service, of Lance Corporal P. E. Casswell, A.S.C., eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. E Casswell, 14, Albert Street, and formerly of Little Bytham and Allington. Notification was received on Wednesday morning, stating that the death was due to dysentery, on Oct, 9th. Which came as a complete shock, since no news had been received stating he was ill. Trained at Aldershot and after five months joined the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, being attached to the General Headquarters Staff at Alexandria, where he received his promotion. Later he was connected with the Deputy Assistant-General's Staff near the Dardanelles. Before enlisting , employed at Messrs R. Hornsby and Sons, Ltd. in the Buying Office, as a shorthand writer and typist, proceeding there after completing his education at Sedgebrook Grammar School. etc.

The news of his demise was received on Wednesday morning, from the War Office, stating that L.Cpl. Casswell had died of dysentery, on Oct. 26th. On Tuesday, deceased would have attained his 25th birthday, which is also the natal day of his mother, and to commemorated the event parcels and expressions of good wishes had been sent to teach him on his birthday. The news of his death was a great shock to his relatives, since that had no indication that that his health was anything but normal. Before enlisting he was employed by Messrs. R. Hornsby & Son's. Ltd, in the Buying Office, as a shorthand writer and typist proceeding there when he had completed his education at Sedgebrook Grammar School. He was a teacher in the St. John's Sunday School, and also conducted a Band of Hope Class.
