Ed & Della and one of their grandsons, Hunter Hanks attended the 4th of July 2010 Billips Reunion in Virginia. After returning home to Kentucky, Ed, Della Mae & Hunter all went back to Virginia to help her brother-in-law, Roger Mitchem build a home for Della's sister, Charlotte "Billips" Mitchem. While resting from their work on the house, Della departed mortality in the home of her younger sister, Margaret "Billips" Fowler at Big Branch, VA. Della was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Marie Billips, and their mother and father. She was survived by her husband, Ed Hanks, her 3 sons and their families, 4 sisters (Charlotte Lucille Billips Mitchem; Wanda Fay Billips Woods, Lois Catherine Billips Ashworth, & Margaret Ann Billips Fowler), and 3 brothers, (Earl Marvin Billips, Carl Rex Billips, & Everett Clayton Billips).
Della Mae Hanks was loved by all who knew her in Kentucky and Virginia. She had a charitable nature, willing to give of herself to help others in need. Her life was a testimony of one who followed the example of the Lord, Jesus Christ. Della loved to serve others and cheer them up. She lived for the happiness of others.
