Private First-Class Charles B "Burton" Allen, Jr., born in 1924, was the son of Charles B and Elorie (Kidd) Allen of Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia.
In the 1930 census 5-year-old Burton is living with his parents at 802 Vedado Way NE in Atlanta. His father owns an auto repair garage.
In the 1940 census 15-year-old Burton is living with his parents, still on Vedado Way in Atlanta. His father is a solicitor for a steam railroad.
Burton's parents moved to Trussville, Jefferson County, Alabama in early 1943. Trussville is on the northeast side of Birmingham.
Burton went to Boys High School in Atlanta. He finished his senior year in Trussville, Alabama, but was allowed to graduate from Boys High School with the rest of his class.
Burton enlisted 14 Aug 1943 at Fort McPherson in Atlanta. He'd had four years of high school and was single without dependents. His civil occupation was listed under clerks, general office.
On 21 Nov 1944 the command post of the 10th Armored Division was at Apach, France. Apach is on east side of the Moselle River at the border with Germany and Luxembourg. At that point Germany is east of the Moselle; Luxembourg is west of the Moselle.
The NARA WWII casualty listing by state and county for Alabama show Allen Charles B, Pfc from Jefferson County as killed in action 27 Nov 1944. Ancestry says he was killed at Silwingen, Merzig-Wadern, Saarland, Germany. Silwingen is just inside Germany 10 miles ESE of Apach and 5.5 mi WSW of Merzig, Germany.
