Norman served as a Second Lieutenant and Pilot on B-24J (#42-110107 - " Wham! Bam! Thank You , Ma'm "), 854th Bomber Squadron, 491st Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

His family resided at 773 Thurston Road, Rochester, Monroe County, New York and his wife resided at 165 Millbank Street, also in Rochester, during the war.

He was "Killed In Action" when he, and five other crew members, were executed by a German air-raid warden during the war. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
