PENSION PAPERS OF ELIJAH WHITE, SR.
Betsey's Deposition:

State of Vermont
Addison County

On the 21st day of December in the year 1842 Personally appeared before the _______ court for the District of Addison Betsey White a resident of the town of Whiting in said District of Addison, aged seventy years, who being first duly sworn according to _____ doth, on her oath make the following declaration, in order to obtain the benefits of the provisions made by the act of Congress passed July 7th 1838, entitled "An act granting half pay and pensions to ____ widows." That she is the widow of Elijah White, late of said Whiting, deceased, who was a private in the army of the United States, during the Revolutionary war;-that she has no personal knowledge of the services of her said husband, but upon for evidence of his said services to the documents, and affidavits in the pension office, on which he and his ______ collected a pension of fifty five dollars, his service is under the act of June of 1832.
She further declares that she was married to the said Elijah White in the town of Holliston, County of Middlesex, Massachusetts, by Rev. Timothy Dickinson, on the 27th day of June 1793; that her husband the aforesaid Elijah White died at Whiting aforesaid on the fifth day of November 1840-Eighteen hundred forty-that she removed with her husband to Franklin, where he then resided and after residing in Franklin and Medway a few years, she and her said husband remove in the year 1802 or 1803 to the Town of Whiting in the County of Addison, Vermont; where they have ever since resided: That she was not married to him prior to his leaving the service, but the marriage took place previous to the first day of January Seventeen hundred and ninety four (viz) at the time above stated.
