Billy's remains were recovered in November, 1980 and he was interred in the Potosi Cemetery, Potosi, Texas.

Billy served as a First Lieutenant & Pilot on A-20G "Pistol Packing Mama" #43-21416, 388th Bomber Squadron, 312th Bomber Group, Light, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Callahan County, Texas prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps January 15, 1942 in Dallas, Texas. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the manufacture of automobiles and also as Single, without dependents.

A-20G #43-21416 took off from Nadzab Airfield, Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea with the 386th Bombardment Squadron on a mission against Yakamul, West Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea which was east of Wewak. They disappeared after flying into heavy clouds and a rain squall minutes after take off near Kaiapit, Morobe Province Papua New Guinea. It was later discovered by local natives in 1973 that they had crashed about two miles east of Kaiapit.

Billy first was declared "Missing In Action" and later was declared as "Killed In Action" once his remains were recovered.

He was awarded the "Silver Star", Air Medal, and the Purple Heart with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster.
