LT John W. Beedon was the Engineering Officer on board the USS KANAWHA. He was one of 19 shipmates lost when their ship was attacked by Japanese war planes in Tulagi Harbour, the British Solomons on April 7, 1943. The ship eventually sank into 200 feet of water of the harbor in the wee hours of April 8, 1943. It is now a tourist destination for divers due to its accessibility.
