Born in Scranton, PA, his family moved to Sloatsburg, Rockland County, New York in December 1941.
He enlisted in the Army on August 19, 1942 at Fort Jay, Governor's Island, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the manufacture of textiles.
B-24D #42-40886 took off with a crew of 11 from 7 Mile Drome, Central Province, Papua New Guinea on a night radar mission looking for Japanese shipping in the Bismarck Sea off of Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea.
They were last contacted by radio and were not seen nor heard from again. The entire crew was lost.
In 1982 the B-24 was located; due to the risk of landslides at the site, the primary recovery mission to seek the crew's remains occurred 20 years later. They had crashed near Mount Eiyawaiy and Engati in Morobe Province.
Following DNA analysis and identification of the remains, a joint burial service for the crew was held at Arlington National Cemetery on March 24, 2011.
