Son of Mrs. Laura J. Fredericks who resided in Bruceville, Indiana.

Leo served as a Staff Sergeant & Asst. Engineer / Gunner on B-24D "Heather Angel" #42-72783, 372nd Bomber Squadron, 307th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Knox County, Indiana prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on August 27, 1942 at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the manufacture of boots and shoes and also as Single, with dependents.

B-24D #42-72783 took off, with a crew of 10, on a bombing mission over Dublon Island, Chuuk State, Federated States of Micronesia.

Around the time of "bombs away" they were seen to explode. Crews from other B-24's were unsure if it was caused by ground anti-aircraft fire or Japanese night fighter aircraft. The entire crew was lost.

Leo was declared "Missing In Action" in this explosion during the war.
