Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until March 15, 1946.

Robert served as a First Lieutenant & Pilot on B-24J #44-40933, 370th Bomber Squadron, 307th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during WW II.

He resided in Noble County, Indiana prior to the war.

B-24J #44-40933 left Kurnasoren Airfield on a bombing mission to Balikpapan on the island of Borneo. After completion of the bombing mission, #44-40933 was attacked by Japanese aircraft and shot down and were believed to have crashed at sea.

Robert was declared "Missing In Action" in this attack during the war.

He was awarded the "Distinguished Flying Cross", Air Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
