He was killed February 8, 1945, in the Battle of Luzon in General Douglas MacArthur’s “Return to the Philippines”. He was at Zig Zag Pass about six miles east of Olongapo when he met his fate. His close brother Robert was serving only 35 miles away in Southern Luzon when Reed was killed. He was buried temporarily in the Olongapo Temporary Cemetery #1 and then moved later to the beautiful Manila American Cemetery where he is buried permanently.
